Following on from the Well Within The Law inhouse CPD Workshop hosted by CKT in November, we were proud to attend the launch of the Psychological Safety Toolkit: A Foundation for Building High Impact Legal Teams, an event organised by The Psychological Services Team at the Law Society of Ireland on Thursday 6th February 2025.
With over 130 attendees present from law firms across Ireland, Melanie Power and Suzanne Dennehy represented CKT at this landmark occasion, underscoring the firm’s commitment to fostering a supportive and healthy workplace culture.
Eamon Harrington, Partner at CKT and 2025 President of the Law Society of Ireland, delivered an inspiring opening address, commending the work of The Psychological Services Team, led by Antoinette Moriarty. He encouraged firms to “build a culture where every voice matters” while humbly acknowledging that although CKT strives to be a “happy place,” there is always room for growth and improvement.
As part of the event, Ms Moriarty introduced two new key members of the Psychological Services Team—Ruth O’Sullivan and Dr. Dale Whelehan—both of whom bring extensive expertise to support the expansion of psychological services for law firm members. She warmly described the legal profession as both “a tough profession and a great community,” emphasising the importance of initiatives like this to strengthen the sector.
The event featured insightful discussions from two expert guest speakers on the critical role of psychological safety in high-performing legal teams. Toolkit author Eadine Hickey, Leadership and Culture Coach at Resonate Leadership, engaged in a thought-provoking conversation with Katie da Gama, an experienced lawyer, executive coach, and leadership development consultant at Senatum. Ms Hickey referenced renowned thought leader Amy Edmondson, noting that “the goal of Psychological Safety is not Psychological Safety. The goal is excellence.” This underscores the idea that a culture of learning, co-created by all team members, serves as the foundation for excellence in legal practice.
Attendees gained invaluable insights into how psychological safety can drive collaboration, innovation, and well-being within law firms. The two-part Psychological Safety Toolkit provided at the event offers research-driven information and CPD resources, equipping firms with practical, everyday actions to begin embedding a culture of psychological safety in their teams.
